MICAT is a management entrance exam organized by MICA (Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad) for admission to its PGDM programs. The MICAT 2024 Exam Pattern remains consistent with the previous year’s format. The exam is conducted twice a year—MICAT I and MICAT II—and the higher of the two scores is used for shortlisting candidates. The MICAT exam is held across 48 cities in India.

Exam Pattern
The eligibility criteria for MICAT are similar to those for other entrance exams. Here’s a summary:
Other Scores: Candidates must have valid scores from at least one other entrance exam like CAT 2020, XAT 2020, or GMAT (2018 onwards).
MICAT is held in two phases: the first in December and the second in January. For 2024, the exam will feature six main sections and last for 2 hours and 45 minutes. The paper will include both subjective and objective questions. The three main sections are: Verbal Ability (VA), General Awareness, and Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation (QA & DI). The second section is divided into four sub-sections: Psychometric Test, Descriptive Test, and Divergent-Convergent Reasoning (DCR).
The marking scheme for each section is not usually disclosed, but negative marking typically applies only to objective questions (excluding Psychometric), and not to subjective questions.
Section-wise Breakdown:
No of Sections | Subjects | Questions | Time Allotted |
---|---|---|---|
Section I | Psychometric | 150 | 30 mins |
Section II | Descriptive Test | 4 | 25 mins |
Section III | Verbal Ability (VA) | 20 | 1 hour 20 mins |
Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation (QA & DI) | 20 | ||
General Awareness (GA) | 20 | ||
Divergent-Convergent Reasoning (DCR) | 20 | ||
Total | 234 | 2 hours 15 mins |
MICAT is conducted in an online CBT mode, and candidates must attempt both parts of the exam to be considered for shortlisting. The order of sections A, B, and C may vary. If candidates have appeared for CAT, XAT, or GMAT, the best score among these exams will be considered.
The final composite score is based on the following weightage:
Admission Round | Weightage |
---|---|
MICAT (I & II combined) | 30% |
CAT/XAT/GMAT | 20% |
Group Exercise (GE) | 20% |
Personal Interview (PI) | 30% |
Normalized Scores: Scores for all sub-sections are calculated separately and then normalized using statistical methods. These scores are added, and the total MICAT I/MICAT II scores are normalized again. The MICAT percentile cutoff varies each year, and the admission committee of MICA uses it to determine further admission processes. Approximately 10% of the candidates who appear for MICAT are shortlisted for subsequent rounds.
